For the Instruction of Young Ladies

For the Instruction of Young Ladies

For the Instruction of Young Ladies, an installation exhibited in “Allusion Dimension” curated by Susan Stoops and Carl Belz at The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, 1989.

For the Instruction of Young Ladies examines the education of women as a method of socialization rather than as a means of acquiring knowledge. The vocabulary of the installation - samplers, slates, books, and pencils speaks to the on-going agenda for women's roles in America.
